Moonstar looked up as Ripplestep padded into her den, sitting herself next to the leader's nest. The gray and white quickly sat up, blinking tiredness out of her eyes, and stared at her medicine cat. "I presume you have news, Ripplestep?"
"Yes, Moonstar," replied the she-cat. "Starshine just finished kitting. Our clan now has four new members; Dawnkit, Sunkit, Nightkit and Poppykit."
For a moment, the clan's leader's eyes shone, and then went dull once again. "I see," she said. "I'll make an announcement right now. New members of the clan need to be celebrated." Ripplestep nodded. She looks tired, the medicine cat thought. I shouldn't ask though, that'd provoke her. I wish I knew what was causing this tiredness....

Moonstar stalked out of her den, taking her place on top of the Great Boulder. "Cats of HawkClan!" she announced, her voice less energetic than usual. "Today, we celebrate the arrival of four new kits into our clan. Starshine has given birth to Dawnkit, Sunkit, Poppykit and Nightkit. I'm sure they will prove to be valuable members of our clan and will grow up into fine warriors."
Below, on the ground, the group of cats in the camp cheered. New kits!
Moonstar dipped her head. "That is all," she said, blinking, and disappearing with a flick of her tail.

Ripplestep straight away padded back into the nursery. Rainfall cheered along with the other cats.

Mistykit sat down beside her brother.
Starshine chuckled. "Not yet Whitekit maybe a few more days when they are stronger" she said looking down on Dawnkit, Sunkit, Poppykit and Nightkit.

ReplyDeleteWhitekit cocked his head. "Seems like someone was born on the wrong side of the nest," he teased.
Nightkit narrowed his eyes, turning around to face Whitekit. "What did you say?" He snapped, his amber eyes flaring.
ReplyDelete"We live in Hawkclan! The most agile clan in the forest." Starshine said proudly to Nightki. "Nightkit! Be nice" Dawnkit muttered.
ReplyDeleteNightkit rolled his eyes. "He just insulted me, Dawnkit," he told his sister, his tail flicking in irritation at Whitekit.
ReplyDelete"He was teasing you Nightkit, you did growl at him." Dawnkit replied.
ReplyDeleteNightkit rolled his eyes. "THat's because they were annoying. You don't understand," he snapped, and walked out of the nursery. "I don't need them," he muttered. Nightkit, in his annoyance, walked into Ivypaw who was walking past.
ReplyDelete"Hey! Watch where you're going-- Hey, you're the new born! What are you doing out of the nursery?" Ivypaw looked down at the kit, curious.
The dark tabby shrugged. "The other kits are annoying," he explained to the apprentices, unafraid. Ivypaw stared, then laughed.
"I like you, Nightkit. Come on, I'll show you around."
(Ima make Ivypaw friends with Nightkit, and Nightkit will have a bad influence... :D)

ReplyDeleteWhen Nightkit left Starshine went after him then she saw Nightkit talking to Ivypaw she called him in. "Nightkit come back to the nursery."

Poppykit sat up and looked at her Dawnkit than back to Mistykit and Whitekit, her eyes sparking with curiousity.
Nightkit rolled his eyes at Ivypaw, and looked back in. "I'm just going to be with Ivypaw," he told Starshine. "I won't be out long." Ivypaw added, "He'll be safe with me, Starshine. Don't worry." She looked down at Nightkit. "Come on, I'll show you the apprentices' den." The dark tabby followed the older she-cat away.

ReplyDelete"We can go out to the clearing with you," Whitekit suggested to Sunkit. "We'be been there many times!"
Sunkit's eyes sparkled. "Yeah!" he said, trying to dash out of the nursery, but tripped over a stray leaf in his path.
ReplyDeleteStarshine sighed "Ok Ivypaw you can take him. And Sunkit you can go in the clearing but I'm watching from the enterce" Starshine said.

ReplyDeleteMistykit let out a small mrrow of laughter as she walked into the clearing, followed by Sleetkit.
Nightkit was out of hearing range, and so was Ivypaw. "So this is the apprentices' den. You'll be staying here in 6 months," she explained to the kit.
ReplyDelete"But that's so long! Why can't I be an apprentice sooner? I want to learn to fight!" Nightkit complained, his whiskers twitching.
"The warrior code says so," Ivypaw shrugged, though she didn't think the warrior code was very accurate. It told you to worship dead cats.
"The warrior code is stupid," Nightkit said promptly, and Ivypaw let out a mrrow of amusement. "Sometimes," she agreed.
Bluepaw looked around at all the busy, chatting cats.
ReplyDeleteDawnkit was about to drag Poppykit to the clearing but was scowled by Starshine so Dawnkit left her mission of dragging Poppykit and raced to the clearing as she tried to look at everything she got her paws tangled with her tail and fell down trapped.

Whitekit turned around and let our a short mrrow of laughter while Mistykit waited for Sunkit in the clearing.
ReplyDeletePoppykit followed her sister out of the nursery and giggled.
Sunkit dashed out onto the clearing, looking around. "It's so big!" he said, almost overwhelmed with the size of the camp.
ReplyDeleteIvypaw showed Nightkit the rest of camp. Nightkit was awed. "I want to be the best warrior this forest has ever seen! And the best fighter!"
ReplyDeleteIvypaw grinned down at him. "I'll be made warrior before you're made apprentice, so I'll ask Moonstar if I can mentor you. We'll be the best team in the entire world," she smiled.
"Yeah! And then we'll beat the intruders into a pulp!"
"Yup," Ivypaw agreed, sitting down in the middle of the camp with her tail around her paws as Nightkit pranced around, battling imaginary foes.
"Mind your paws, and claw at the ears of the enemy," Ivypaw instructed. "Try to trip and/or unbalance the enemy if you can."
Sunkit looked over at the two cats. "I want to join!" he said, flinging himself at his brother. "Can I?" his eyes were full of pleading. "Please? Pleasepleasepleaseplease?"
ReplyDeleteNightkit looked up at Ivypaw, who shrugged. "Sure. Let's do this!" He playfully growled and bowled him over.
ReplyDelete"Claws sheathed!" Ivypaw reminded them.
Sunkit sighed as he retracted his already out claws. "That's no fun!" he whined, but dropped down into a battle position.
ReplyDeleteNightkit laughed and batted his brother's ears, then kicked him, sending Sunkit sprawling on the ground. Ivypaw was impressed. "That's a move you don't learn until your fourth lesson as an apprentice," she whispered to herself.
ReplyDeleteSunkit growled, a high pitched sound, and then dashed forward, scoring his paws down Nightkit's flank, knocking him down to the ground.
ReplyDeleteNightkit tripped Sunkit and pinned him down, his teeth at his throat. He waited five seconds, then jumped back up. "I win!" He crowed, and Ivypaw patted Sunkit's back (is that possible?). "Good try," she said.
ReplyDeleteSunkit snarled. "I won't win next time!" he squeaked playfully. "Never!"
ReplyDeletePoppykit watched her brothers play fight with clear curiousity.
ReplyDelete"Yeah, right," Nightkit sneered teasingly. "We'll have a rematch, and you'll still lose!"
ReplyDeleteSunkit cowered, wondering why his brother had to act like that.
ReplyDeleteNightkit saw his brother's fear and sat back, confused. "I was just kidding," he told him, as if talking to a kit younger than him. "But I'll still beat you."
ReplyDeleteSunkit scrunched up his eyes. "Whatever!" he growled suddenly, and started to dash away. "See if I care....."
ReplyDeleteNightkit shrugged. "Okay, whatever," he rolled his eyes, and looked up at Ivypaw. "What's with him?" He asked her.
ReplyDeleteShe shook her head. "No idea..." she replied, just as confused. "Here, I'll show you the hunter's crouch."
Mistykit and Whitekit watched as Sunkit dashed off.
ReplyDeletePoppykit sat quietly still watching her brother. She had no interest in learning how to be an apprentice yet.
Nightkit dashed up to Whitekit, Ivypaw watching from behind. "I've learned battle moves, and I bet I can beat you!" He boasted, his small but already muscular form sitting proudly in front of the older tom.
ReplyDeleteRockmelt smiled from the other side of the clearing. "That's our kits," he thought.
ReplyDelete"No way! I'm older and I learned to fight from my father!" Whitekit boasted.
ReplyDelete"Yeah? Well I'll beat you to a pulp!" Nightkit said, quite disgustingly violently. Ivypaw smiled. She would love him as her apprentice. Nightkit playfully leaped on Whitekit and bowled him over, slashing his stomach.
ReplyDeleteDawnkit crept up on the two kits jumped on top, mewing "sneak attack!" as she landed on Nightkit.
ReplyDeleteNightkit swiftly rolled over and pounced on Dawnkit's neck, kicking her across the clearing easily. He tripped Whitekit and bit his neck fur softly as to not hurt his fellow kit.
ReplyDeleteDawnkit shook her head trying to remember what had happened fist she was on Nightkit now here? She would not take defeat so she charged at Nightkit and manged to pin him down.
ReplyDeleteNightkit easily slipped out from under her and scored his claws down her belly, then bit her neck from instinct. Ivypaw suddenly pulled him off her. "You almost killed your sister, Nightkit," she scolded him, her eyes surprised and frightened.
ReplyDeleteRainfall heard all of the commotion in the clearing and rushed out. After he saw what happened to Dawnkit, he shouted, "RIPPLESTEP! MOONSTAR! COME OUT HERE PLEASE!"
ReplyDeleteNightkit looked at his sister, and rolled his eyes at Rainfall. "DUDE!" He shouted at the cat. "She's got a freakin' scratch on her stomach, mousebrain! She's not hurt!"
ReplyDelete"You don't know whether it would get infected or not." Rainfall hissed. "AND YOU BIT HER NECK!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?"
ReplyDeleteNightkit gave Rainfall a look that could scare the meanest lion in the world. "I did. Not. Draw. Blood. Or is that too hard to understand for a great warrior like you?" He growled, his tone dripping with sarcasm. Ivypaw stepped forward and faced the warrior fearlessly. "Look, back off. You're screaming at a kit. You lost control. What kind of warrior are you?"
ReplyDeleteRainfall hissed, "He could have killed Dawnkit." After he said that, Ripplestep came running up with a bundle of herbs in her mouth and she called, "Moonstar! Plumpaw! I need you guys down here!" She came down and looked at Dawnkit.
ReplyDeleteMoonstar padded out of her den and looked around. "What happened?" the leader asked, narrowing her eyes slightly.
ReplyDeleteChillingheart came out of the warrior's den and looked at the situation. He sighed. "Look, there's no blood. Dawnkit is fine. Nothing, not even minor. The kits were playfighting, it's what kits do. Alright? Rainfall, you can't alarm the camp like this. Moonstar, there's no problem. Ripplestep, you don't have to worry. Everybody, just go back to your duties." He gave Rainfall a disappointed look and looked down at Nightkit. "Just be careful next time, okay?" He turned and disappeared into the forest.
ReplyDeleteMoonstar sighed. "Fight with your claws sheathed," she warned Nightkit in a scathing voice. "Next time I won't be this nice about it...."
ReplyDeleteNightkit scoffed. "What're you going to do, exile me?"
ReplyDeleteIvypaw flicked his shoulder with her tail. "Hey, don't say that to Moonstar."
"Well, she can't kill me, can she? Or torture me. So I'll be fine." He looked fearlessly up at the leader, feeling no hesitation at speaking freely to her.
Bluemoon padded up from behind.
ReplyDelete"Nightkit, quit the attitude. This is your leader you're talking about. Learn to talk with respect. You can't be a great warrior without respect for you peers and your clanmates."
Bluemoon calmly continued, staring into the newborn kit's eyes.
"And next time, be more careful with your sister. You might have only scratched her this time, but if you're not careful enough next time it could be much worse."
Nightkit swiveled around and tried his best not to sneer at the deputy. "Great DreamClan, I know she's the leader! Oh, for DreamClan's sake..." the kit sighed and walked away, Ivypaw trying not to smile.
ReplyDeleteMoonstar sighed. Another tough cat to handle with. She looked over at Bluemoon, smiling slightly. "Thank you for defending me," she said. "But you didn't have to.."
ReplyDeleteRipplestep sighed, and said, "I'll just check you over just to make sure you aren't hurt Dawnkit."
ReplyDeleteBluemoon stared at the newborn kit pad away. He whispered to Moonstar.
ReplyDelete"He won't be ready to become an apprentice unless he speaks with respect. Besides, he was just born! Where'd he get all of that attitude from..."
Moonstar shrugged, sighing. "Neither Starshine nor Rockmelt could have given him such a personality," she said. "We'll just have to deal with it. Though it is surprising that kits have so much, well, vigor at birth... Hopefully, he'll prove to be a good warrior, though."

Ivypaw bounded up to the leader. "Hey, well, you can't really blame him. He had a bad start. Personally, I think you'd be impressed with his fighting. And enthusiasm." She winced at the kit's words. I'll beat them to a pulp!
ReplyDeleteThe leader's eyes flared for a moment. (woah.) "Enthusiasm?" she said in a bone chilling voice. "A lust for battle kills a cat. Warriors who only live to train and fight for battle are not needed in our clan..."

ReplyDelete"A warrior does not care for their clan only through fighting. They have to look out for other clanmates. What Nightkit just did clearly shows the opposite."
Dawnkit Got to her feet, the scratch hurted but she was not going to show it. She walked over to Ripplestep trying very hard not to move her belly to much but ended up waddling there.
ReplyDeleteStarshine was horrified she at a lost of what to do. Sighing she quickly went up to Rockmelt "Um I think you have to talk to Nightkit." Then she left him before he could protest, to gather up Sunkit and Poppykit.
Rockmelt sighed. He had never been a parent before and certainly didn't know what to do in a situation like this. The warrior stood up and looked around for his son.
ReplyDeletePoppykit watched stunned but continued to stay silent. She was glad she had stayed silent and had not gotten into a playfight with her littermates.

Ivypaw stared defiantly at the leader and deputy for a moment. "Well, if you keep acting like that you definitely won't help Nightkit," she snapped, and stormed off to find her only friend.
Moonstar took a last glance of her camp, then padded away, disappearing into the undergrowth of the forest.

ReplyDeleteNightkit, after a while, emerged from a bush and padded up to Dawnkit. "Are you okay? I know I didn't hurt you. Next time, you have to roll away, like I did," he instructed her. "I'll teach you to fight like Ivypaw did."
Dawnkit's eyes light up "really!" she squeaked excited.
ReplyDeleteNightkit shrugged. "Yeah. No big deal." To himself, he thought, I won't teach her everything. I'll keep some to myself.

ReplyDeleteScening defeat Dawnkit decided not to push it. "All right then, till apprentice." She muttered and bounced off looking for some one to play with forgetting what Ripplestap told her.
